Art and property give rise to discussions. When is someone the owner; when does an object fall into an estate; who is co-owner; what if different people claim rights? So many people, so many sentences!
In a judgement of March 5, 2019, the Hague Court of Appeal ruled against descendants of art collector Franz Wilhelm Koenigs (“Koenigs”) in a dispute they have with Rotterdam Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (“Boijmans”).
On 14 December 2016 the court in Amsterdam pronounced judgement on the return of various artefacts exhibited by the Allard Pierson Museum. The court ruled that the artefacts must be handed over to Ukraine.

During renovation works on the Sparta Rotterdam Stadium in 1997, a carpenter allegedly pulled a painting out of a wheelbarrow with rubbish. The carpenter decided to take the painting ("that was eventually going to end up on the dump anyhow") home.
In its judgment on 11 October 2012, the appellate court of Den Bosch, the Netherlands, held that the Dutch court has jurisdiction over a dispute concerning a painting, titled "Madonna della Candalabre" by Antonio Rosselino.
On 7 March 2012, the Dordrecht District Court rendered a final judgment in the dispute concerning the Luigies Art Collection. The works of art are part of the estate of the late Nanne Harm Luigies (1904-1977).
The Greek Culture Minister has received seven icons from the Dutch authorities. The icons were found in Amsterdam and were seized by the police last April, as they had been stolen from a church in the Greek city of Koukouli.
